Self Care

It occurred to me recently that a lot of my list is focused on the topic of self care...an area that i admit I do not excel at.  “Self care” was never really a phrase that I heard from my hard-working parents growing up.  I was taught to work hard, and then do some more work...there’s always time for more work.  I have learnt that people respond differently to this approach...some are fine and thrive on it.  Some crumble after an extra hour.  I am somewhere in the middle.  I can push and push and push for days or weeks, depending on the situation - but then...I snap.

My current work assignment accounts for this and I am currently on a few days of forced rest and relaxation.  Yesterday was day 1...I laid around, watched episodes of survivor, napped, ate junk food...and at the end of day...I felt great.  Doing nothing feels wrong, sort of against my DNA.   But I can honestly say today that I am feeling the benefits of some time away from general work / life.

I am going to keep going on my list, knowing that self care is going to help me feel better and ultimately help make me a better version of me.
